June 3, 2003 - "Classic 404"
Back in 2000, when I actually started 404, KeenSpot (the 'Space's sister site) was doing a series of summer pin-ups. Somebody had the classy idea of letting the 'Space artists do their own version of 'Spot's summer pin-ups - only we were going to be original. So we did winter pin-ups. See? Clever, isn't it? They're summer, and we're... winter....
All right, so we thought we were pretty clever back then. I would link to my pin-up on that site, but I don't think it exists any more. That might have something to do with its being a joke that would now be three years out of date. Ahem.
But the entry above was my entry in the pin-up pages. Back then, 404 was a furry gag strip - something that it will probably never be again. The pin-up was "Form vs. Function", with Dana arguing for form and David (in the igloo spaceman suit) arguing for function. It's funny. I always thought David was the winner in this discussion, but everybody else seemed to think Dana was the winner.
This also marks the last time I ever drew anything that could be considered a "furry pin-up." It was the first time I intended to draw anything like a pin-up. I never really understood the point of a cartoon pin-up, tho. Especially one done with funny animals. I did this one because I thought I was being clever and satirical of the pin-up forms. Unfortunately, I think my satire of pin-ups wound up being the closest thing to a real pin-up entered in the page.
In addition I would like to state - I can't even remember what the name of the big gallery this was in was. Is there anybody out there who can remember the 'Space back in 2000 and can fill me in?
